HORTENSIA SORIANO
D.C., Daughter of Rafael Soriano
“My father was a humble and gentle man. I never heard him speak a negative comment regarding anyone. He was a man of few words and when we spoke, he encouraged and inspired me. During my high school years, he helped me on a project that I compared his work to Rembrandt’s because he had commented about the light within Rembrandt’s paintings. I have always been struck by the translucency and light within my father’s paintings.
I have lived my life surrounded by so many of his paintings and I still find new discoveries. He painted at night with various genres of music. When I would hear the music at night as I was falling asleep, I would smile and know that my father was happy doing what he loved most…painting.”
